The holiday destination of thousands, from youngsters to those who appreciate the finer things in l
Some of these fortifications straddle steep, almost epic, cliffs where wild flowers and rare species of wildlife can provide some breathtaking views. You can travel the length of the island in a couple of hours yet it takes on a miniature version of typical colourful and contrasting Mediterranean scenery. Spectacular mountain ranges, busy agricultural areas, and olive groves in hidden valleys all completely and utterly debunk the booze-laden stag weekend perception that the island has been lumbered with long after it ceased to be true.
Corfu always was, is, and hopefully always will be, an island where style and class can take on a new dimension. Almost secret, yet determined to be heard, where the inland lagoons become breeding grounds for migrant birds, where the splendour of Mount Pandokrator meets the timeless wonder of a true sunset of this incredibly misrepresented island.
It's not as if things needed to change, with villas in Corfu being some of the most stylish and luxurious as other accommodation across the Aegean, but that at some point people forgot that Corfu was never a cheap package holiday destination. One feature that surely speaks for itself is the Corfu Trail an official cross country walking route that winds through the islands ecological districts bringing the island's best features to those taking the route. Some visitors choose to tackle the entire route over a week or fortnight's holiday, while others will yomp along sections, with the entire path almost always remote from the typical tourist resorts. The trail is best visited outside the hottest summer peak period, with the very best of each season either waning or blooming in equal vibrancy.
Corfu's culture is a variety of different influences. The people of Corfu have a passion for theatre, music, painting and dance, with the capital also called Corfu promoting a range of cultural and arts events throughout the year. The city's architecture is notable for it's castles, fortifications and an abundance of British designed Neoclassical buildings, while Corfu Town is known throughout Europe for its fine art heritage.
Sporting activities also flourish on the island. Corfu's rich culture and beautiful landscape compliment the clear coastal waters, where diving, swimming and boating enable the visitor to gain a different perspective of the island. Restaurants on the island satisfy all kinds of tastes, and like much of Corfu, the quality and styles on offer can satisfy a range of preferences and expectations from the discerning traveller.
Corfu is reached by a variety of means including flights from all over Europe or a traditional ferry crossing from mainland Greece You can be out of the airport or off the ferry and on the beach in minutes. The resorts, culture, and shopping all make breaks on Corfu an perfect place to experience true Mediterranean style.
For a relaxing, warm weather break villas in Corfu make a perfect choice. Flights to Corfu are well priced and fairly short in duration when compared to flying to other summer resorts.
