Majorca is a great place for a holiday at any time of year, whether it's a recharging spring break in milder temperatures, a hot summer beach experience or a resful autumn kickback. Those in search of sun and sand would be best served visiting in the long summer months. However for anyone in search of authentic flavours, off-peak times are by far the best. During the tourist season Majorca imports much of its food. Outside the peak season, most of the island is self-sufficient.

With the island producing almonds, walnuts, olives and the native tomato – Ramallet – Majorcan food features a variety of different nuts and vegetables. Both omnivores and vegetarians are well catered for by the many restaurants in all the main resorts and even inland villages and towns. For the real taste of Majorca, visitors should try an ensaimada – a spiral yeast bun that is sprinkled with icing sugar. This is apparently very difficult to make away from the island due to the effect the Mediterranean sea air has on the dough as it rises. Other local delicacies to look out for are cocarrois pasties, trampos vegetable pizza and sobrassada sausages. Majorca not only provides traditional Mediterranean fare, but also traditional Spanish foods as well. The island offers lots of sumptuous seafood and saffron-infused produce, reminiscent of Spanish Paella.

Villas in Majorca offer luxurious accommodation for anyone looking to enjoy a self-catering holiday. Spend a few days getting to know the local cuisine, try some new ingredients, and when you begin to feel confident the fully equipped Majorca villas provide a wonderful place in which to experiment with your own recipe inventions using local ingredients. Using the locally sourced fresh ingredients, you can create your own take on Majorcan classics or enjoy the challenge of creating new and exciting fusion dishes.

Regardless of whether you spend your time on the beach, in the markets or admiring the architecture, hiring a villa in Majorca adds that extra special delight as you return each day to your place of sanctuary. They provide a quiet, peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas and make an ideal place to sit back and relax in the sunshine with a cool drink. Whether you're travelling alone or as part of a group, this wonderful island and the range of accommodation available, is sure to have something to suit your individual needs.

Unless you can take a ferry from Spain, getting to majorca will involve a flight. Holidays in Majorca tend to begin and end at the Majorca's Palma Airport – a place where many tourists can be seen, clutching boxes of delicious ensaimadas. But don't imagine that exciting nightlife followed by lazy days on the beach is all Majorca can offer. There are also numerous historic buildings and monuments, monasteries, craftsmen and shopping precincts. On top of all this, Majorca also provides outstanding Mediterranean cuisine and an almost unrivalled café culture. This is a must-see destination for anyone interested in traditional Mediterranean cooking.

Mark says one option for a holiday is to hire one of the many villas in Majorca which are usually spacious enough for larger families or groups. Other options for holidays on Majorca are any of the thousands of hotels or guest houses that exist all over this island.
